UTS administrators often attend Association of Theological Schools (ATS) events. Experience shows that it is important for UTS to stay current with the conversations which are part of the theological landscape in North America.

On Saturday, December 10, UTS will be hosting an Open House at its extension center in Manhattan at 4W 43rd Street. This is an opportunity for prospective students to visit the urban campus a few steps off 5th Ave, where they can learn about the degree programs that UTS offers and meet with current students, staff and faculty.
“Our seminary is one of the few accredited theological graduate schools in the United States that is interfaith,” according to Dr. Kathy Winings, UTS Vice President for Academic Affairs, who also noted the tremendous diversity of the student body.

Interfaith Education
The human soul has still greater need of the ideal than of the real. It is by the real that we exist; it is by the ideal that we live.” Victor Hugo
New York City — “Like everyone else, Muslims want peace and do not like extremists like the ISIS. But the mainstream media is not reporting our voices. It seems like we are quiet about extremism. But we are not,” said a Muslim leader here in an engaging forum with students of an interfaith seminary right in the heart of the city.
In October, Imam Shamsi Ali discussed ways that challenge and counter religious extremism and radicalism in...
Rock ’n Roll and the Fall of the Soviet Empire
BARRYTOWN – As we approached our graduation from the Unification Theological Seminary (UTS) in the spring of 1992 most of us already had a strong suspicion we would be sent to Russia. The Berlin Wall had been shattered in 1989 and the communist world, tilting on the edge of an abyss, had split open like an overripe piece of fruit, just as the UTS, Founder, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, had predicted many years before.
Since seminarians had already been in Russia for some time – and stood hand-in-hand with our new brothers and sisters when the military tried, and failed, to depose...

Challenging Religious Extremism and Radicalism
On Wednesday October 26, Imam Shamsi Ali (pictured) was invited to be a guest speaker at the UTS Extension Center in New York City at 4W43. His topic was “Challenging Religious Extremism and Radicalism in the 21st Century.” Imam Shamsi Ali, an Indonesian from Sulawesi, had an articulate approach, gentle but firm, deeply committed to his religious thought and practice, thoughtful, open to other ideas, and concerned for the future.
He took a stand against “extremism of any type”. He made it clear that his commitment to anti-extremism is firmly based on the principled teachings of...
