Student Spotlight – Jacques Marion

What inspired you to apply to HJI and your program? What do you most appreciate about being a student at HJI?

When I was invited to attend the master’s course on Peace Studies, I accepted with gratitude, because I had not had a chance to study for many years. Yet, my responsibility in the Universal Peace Federation brings me into contact with leaders who are involved on a higher level with problems of conflict resolution. I felt I could benefit a lot from this course, which would allow me to better represent UPF, its vision and objectives, as a genuine peace organization.

If applicable, share about the benefits of your online learning experience

My online learning experience is extremely beneficial, and I wish I had more time to deepen and broaden my studies. Many materials I receive in the course can be used in the future. I can study peace in a concrete way, through the analysis of many situations in the world. I can study concepts, ideas, and laws that are the foundation of world affairs today, and that enlighten the way the international community functions.

I try to use this experience in my mission as I meet with leaders from different fields. What is very helpful is that despite my busy schedule, I can organize my time in order to pursue this course online.

Is there any other highlight or aspect of your study at HJI that you would like to share?

We have great professors, some of whom I know are very considerate toward students and supportive of our efforts to succeed, despite our many challenges.

What do you enjoy in your free time?

I enjoy reading when I can, walking in the countryside, visiting historical places, and meeting with family and friends.
