Dr. Thomas G. Walsh Participates in “The Washington Brief”
On Tuesday, May 5, Dr. Thomas Walsh, HJI President, was featured as a guest panelist invited by the The Washington Times Foundation’s presentation of the The Washington Brief on the topic, “The Relevance of Peace Studies to Conflict Resolution.” Dr. Walsh joined Ambassador Joseph DeTrani, former Six-Party Talks envoy, and Dr. Alexandre Mansourov, Professor of Security Studies from Georgetown University in this revealing conversation. Dr. Michael Jenkins, President of The Washington Times Foundation, and HJI graduate, was the moderator.
In his remarks, Dr. Walsh stated, “We live in a highly charged and conflicted world, one burdened by frozen conflicts, steaming hot conflicts, and conflicts waiting to flare up. While traditional political and economic approaches to peace are essential, they are not entirely adequate in addressing or resolving some of the root causes of conflict. With this in mind, our discussion will focus on the relevance and role of a wide range of aspects of the human experience, including intercultural and interreligious dialogue, education and diplomacy in the effort to redirect human energies toward peace rather than conflict.” Click on the link below to watch the entire program.
