Honorary Doctorate To Be Conferred Upon Ambassador Joseph DeTrani at the Graduation Ceremony for HJI
New York, NY, May 1, 2024 – The HJ International Graduate School for Peace and Public Leadership is proud to announce the conferral of an honorary doctorate upon Ambassador Joseph DeTrani as part of its 48th Commencement Ceremony. The event will take place on May 25th at 2:00 pm ET at 4 West 43rd Street, New York, NY.
Ambassador Joseph DeTrani, a distinguished figure in international diplomacy and a prominent advocate for peace, will also serve as the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Ambassador DeTrani’s insights are anticipated to inspire the next generation of leaders in their pursuit of peace and public service.
Ambassador Joseph DeTrani brings a wealth of experience and expertise in international diplomacy, spanning decades of service at the highest levels of government. Notably, he served as the former Special Envoy for Six Party Talks with North Korea and the U.S. representative to the Korea Energy Development Organization from 2003-2006. His pivotal role in facilitating dialogue and negotiations during this critical period has earned him widespread acclaim and recognition.
Ambassador DeTrani’s distinguished career includes serving as an Associate Director of National Intelligence and the Mission Manager for North Korea (2006-2010), as well as the Director of the National Counterproliferation Center and a senior adviser to the Director of National Intelligence (2010-2012). Prior to his roles in national intelligence, Ambassador DeTrani held various leadership positions within the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where his contributions were instrumental in shaping U.S. foreign policy and national security strategies.
A decorated veteran, Ambassador DeTrani served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was honored with the Commandant’s Award and recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate from New York University (NYU). He furthered his education at NYU, graduating with Honors and attending both the NYU School of Law and Graduate School of Business Administration.
