SUMMARY:Rev. Moon's Early Writings on Science
DESCRIPTION:WATCH THE RECORDING! \nHJ International Graduate School for Peace and Public Leadership is pleased to co-host a special program with the Higher Purpose Forum (HPF). We invite you to register for Rev. Moon’s Early Writings on Science to be held on May 7 at 7 PM ET. \nMr. James Edgerly\, Director of Higher Purpose Forum will be the host of this event. \nDr. Andrew Wilson\, HJI Professor of Scriptural Studies\, will cover specific topics of the Principle’s treatment of scientific topics as conveyed in the Wolli Wonbon. These will include: elemental forces of gravity and electromagnetism\, planetary motion\, incandescent color\, and applications to human psychology. \nWilliam Lay\, JD\, Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice and Human Secuirty\, HJI will be the respondent. \nRev. Moon’s (as yet unpublished) first manuscript of Divine Principle (titled Wolli Wonbon)\, which he wrote in 1951-52\, devotes more than 100 pages to science. Topics range from astronomy to evolution\, from electro-magnetism to animal behavior to psychology. \nIn the background of Wolli Wonbon is Rev. Moon’s own life experience\, first as a student of electrical engineering at a school connected to Waseda University in Japan\, and then as a prisoner in the Heungnam Prison Camp in North Korea where he was subjected to many hours of indoctrination in Marxist dialectical materialism.  At the start of his ministry\, Rev. Moon saw a need to put forward “the Principle”\, as both a rigorous counterproposal to dialectical ideologies and a worldview that could be the basis for working towards a future of peace and harmony. \nThe program will conclude with a Q&A with the audience. We look forward to seeing you at this event! \n

SUMMARY:Faculty Roundtable\, Dr. Perrottet
DESCRIPTION:“Join us for our Faculty Roundtable on Wednesday\, November 15\, 2023 at 7 PM ET\, hosted by HJI President Dr. Thomas Walsh. HJI Adjunct Professor\, Dr. Claude Perrottet will be speaking on “How Positive is (Galtung’s) Positive Peace?” Dr. Keisuke Noda\, HJI Associate Provost\, will be the emcee for the evening. \nThe concepts of Positive Peace and Negative Peace\, popularized by Johan Galtung\, have dominated the discourse of Peace Studies over the last few decades. Even the newcomer quickly understands that Positive Peace refers to peace as “more than the absence of war.” But what that “more” consists of is less obvious. Establishing social equality and justice\, economic equity\, ecological balance\, civil peace and more have been suggested as key requisites. The aim of this presentation is to suggest further clarification that might be useful to Unificationist and other peace practitioners. \nWe look forward to an insightful and engaging event. ” \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Economic Democracy
DESCRIPTION:“HJ International Graduate School for Peace and Public Leadership is pleased to co-host a special program with the Higher Purpose Forum (HPF) and the Center for Economic and Social Justice (CESJ). We invite you to register for “Economic Democracy” to be held on Tuesday\, November 7 at 7PM ET. \nHPF Chair James Edgerly will be the host for this engaging program with a presentation from North American Coordinator for the International Association for Peace & Economic Development\, Alan Jessen\, followed by his respondent\, Director of Communications of CESJ\, Dawn Brohawn. The program will conclude with Q&A from the audience and comments from HJI Provost\, Dr. Thomas Ward. \nThe modern formulation of free market economics has consistently yielded unprecedented creativity\, productivity\, and wealth. Yet is this system optimal for maximizing a broad distribution of prosperity? Or can reforms be made\, within the free market system\, such that future prosperity will be less disproportionately concentrated in the hands of an economic and political elite? \nAlan Jessen’s presentation is Part II of a discussion on achieving economic democracy congruent with Unificationist ideals of “interdependence and mutual prosperity”. He will present a new paradigm\, developed over the past forty years at the CESJ\, called Binary Economics.”

Individual sovereignty\, as envisioned in our country’s founding documents\, should be upheld and served by social institutions\, not exploited by them. However\, the scale and scope of leading social institutions in contemporary society have expanded so as to threaten individual sovereignty\, self-sufficiency\, and human rights. Of primary concern are major financial institutions\, political parties and government bureaucracies. \nWe look forward to seeing you at this unique event.
